From the Inside Flap

GermanyMay 2nd, 1945 The two remaining officers, still in uniform, looked at each other in silence, neither one knowing what to say. They had their orders to follow. These men both knew for a long time the war had not gone well and feared this day. Without sharing a word, they instinctively knew what they must do.Within a few hours, not a shred of evidence would remain to suggest that a secret base had once existed within this remote hillside. The battalion of soldiers stationed here would not be missed as they were carefully selected for this secret operation, and were expendable. With all evidence removed, dismantled, burned, or obliterated, the two men stood facing each other in front of where the base had been. They had already blown up the main entrance to the base. Both men had now put on civilian clothing; all traces of who they were had been destroyed. No nods were necessary as both men simultaneously produced their issued Lugers and counted to three in unison. At 'three' they both fired and killed each other. Their bodies lay in the open wilderness, ultimately decomposing in the lonely forest, until being devoured by wild pigs hungry for carrion.
