Captain Lorna Vess and her co-pilot Anshula Naidu used to run a passenger shuttle service all across the Saturnian system. Heavily in debt and blackmarked by all the big companies, they are forced to ply their business along the routes no one else wants. Stuck in the swamplands of the moon Rhea, they come across five people needing passage off-world. That the man is dressed as Father Christmas and the women dressed as elves is something the financially unstable pair can’t afford to turn down, even though these strange people seem to believe they are who they appear to be.Setting off into space, it is not long before one of the elves vanishes. Captain Vess’s rational mind seeks an explanation, yet the more open mind of Naidu listens to the elves when they claim the missing woman has gone on ahead by magical means. When a second elf vanishes, Vess’s suspicions deepen and she fears they are trapped on a small shuttle with a murderer. Naidu, meanwhile, sees a shadowy creature in the darkness and fears it could be a magical foe they’re facing. As body parts begin to turn up, it becomes a battle of rational minds against fanciful ones in a struggle for anyone to make it all the way to their destination alive.
