Chaos Territory: Book One in the Chaos Series

Welcome to the Weird Wild West! Matthew Sandstrom is a Government Land Office agent in Chaos, Arizona Territory ca. 1900. When family of homesteaders go missing, and a trading post that serves a mysterious tribe known as the Su'mok is abandoned, he investigates these baffling mysteries. The wife of the trader at the post is found wandering in a nearly catatonic state, and her husband has completely disappeared. What is happening in the territory around Chaos? Sandstrom is uncovers their dark nature. He begins to realize these events are not mere coincidences. Something truly terrifying is loose in the land. After discovering that an ancient terror has been unleashed he enlists aid in his fight against unknown powers. Sandstrom, his Indian allies, and his friend Mose Broadaxe, challenge them for control of humanity's future on earth. Set in the southwest at the end of the most famous era in American history, the Old West, the story engages the reader in a historically sound adventure that also incorporates the eldritch charm of Lovecraft with local primal lore and legend. This is the first book in a series that take place in the spectral, dying, mining town of Chaos, Arizona Territory.

About the Author

Born in Elgin, Illinois as a life-long Cubs fan, a move to Arizona in the mid-sixties made me a desert dweller. Trained at the Univ. of Az. as an archaeologist and educator I also am a self-taught raconteur. My dream was, one day, when I grew up, was to be a writer. I retired as a teacher (after 32 years) and archaeologist (from 1972 and to 2005) though each has contributed to my writing.I love to tell stories. I have performed several times at Tucson Meet Yourself, Tucson Festival of Books and at schools and libraries across Arizona. I am a member of Tucson Tellers of Tales, a professional storytelling organization (see Facebook page).Married over forty years to the same patient woman, we have four daughters and spend much of our time herding seven grandchildren."Chaos Territory" was the first book in the series based on several Lovecraft inspired short stories I wrote while in college. I have three more books in the series available on Amazon. The Waters of Chaos is the third book. They are intended for adult readers due to language and mature situations. I am currently at work on the fifth book, The Fires of Chaos.My first book of a group of mysteries set in prehistoric Arizona -- a novel called "Bits of Sky"-- has been published through iUniverse: iuniverse.com/Bookstore/BookDetail.aspx?BookId=SKU-001168576My first children's book is due for release next year (2019) from Small Tooth Dog publishers. The working title is "Woodrat and Coyote" Watch for it!One critical issue is finding some way to preserve the stories that I tell, especially personal ones and those I have created for children. I started uploading some of my storytelling from venues like the Tucson Festival of Books and Tucson Meet Yourself on YouTube.Thus shortens my story . . .
