Shanghai Ed Kulczynski is an old-time mercenary who tries to live life on the simplest terms. When the tramp steamer he's on, carrying armaments to the Maoist rebels in 1949 China, is attacked by vampires, he barely escapes with his life. Making it back to Shanghai, he soon finds himself in the middle of a poker game and, by a stroke of luck, wins an ancient map to the actual tomb of Ramses the II. Ready for some action that will lead to riches beyond his wildest dreams, Ed cables his close friend, Ronnie Highsmith, who's living in Cairo, Egypt, telling him to get prepared for an adventure of a lifetime.
