Jacob Kelly has purchased his first home in the small town of Rockland, Illinois. Soon after moving in, he finds his home is already inhabited by what he believes is the spirit of a dead child, that torments him during the darkest hours of the night. Not knowing what else to do, he turns to to his barfly friends. As they stumble along trying to help Jacob free himself from the malicious entity that shares his home, they quickly realize they are in over their heads. They are forced to turn to the town's most eccentric character, Nancy O'Broin, for help; whether she is working to help them or help herself is a gamble they have to take. Nancy leads them on a journey to a ghost cabin in the land that sits beyond The Gate, a wooded area at the edge of town that is wrapped in mystery and urban legend. Ignoring the tales of murder, disappearances, and otherworldly occurrences that have happened beyond The Gate over the years, they make their way into the woods, searching for an end to Jacob's curse.
