Jaxon Long wakes up to another ordinary day and goes to his nine to five job. That day turns out to not be so ordinary at all, magic returns to the world after a very long time of existing only in legend and fairy tales. In a span of a few moments, some people are gifted with magic, some are transformed into mythical beasts and races such as elves, dwarfs and trolls. Along with that, Immortals and Gods are born. The Immortals are people that transcend their mortal bodies and form soulstones that contain their true essence. They are not gods but they aren't really human either and can't die as long as their soulstone is intact. The birth of the new gods turns out to be cataclysmic as the newborn gods have no idea how to contain or manage the power they suddenly have access to, most self-destructed in explosions that rivaled nuclear weapons. Considering the potential for godhood was a very small percentage of the population, most of the new gods were born in densely populated areas that made up the major cities of the world resulting in the destruction of most of those cities. The world is reeling from what appears to be wide-scale nuclear attacks from an unknown source, people suddenly have abilities to manipulate everything from fire to air, some have mysteriously transformed into monsters of legend like trolls and ghouls. Governments immediately start collapsing across the world and lawless anarchy is on the horizon.Jaxon is able to survive his ascent to Immortal status with the assistance of a mysterious being sent by his past, or future self, its not clear which. Based on information he received during his “ascension” he has a vague idea of whats going on. He rushes to gather his family to take them out of the small city they live in to someplace safer. He ends up assembling a group of diverse people and relocating them to recreated pioneer fort in the area called Boonsborough and finds himself the reluctant leader of this new community.
