Following are the Introduction and Preface that were published in a revised edition in 1831. • Frankenstein; or, the Modern Prometheus by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley has been delighting readers since it was first published anonymously in London in 1818. The author’s name did not appear on the book until the second edition was published in 1823. • Frankenstein tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, born into a wealthy Italian family, who is determined to create a living being by piecing together parts of dead bodies and endowing the his creation with life through experimental scientific procedures.Victor Frankenstein succeeds beyond his wildest imaginings, and the Creature is born.
