Lilly of the Valley

Before the War in Heaven, before she was Lilly the Seer, heroine of the Battle of Surel, central figure of the Children of Eternity, she was Lilly of the Valley, the only child of Kwan Chin-Ho and Kwan Ae-Cha of North Korea. Though born into a family with strong Communist Party connections, she and her mother had a terrible secret; they were both Christians. With the untimely death of her father, four-year-old Lilly and her mother faced an uncertain future. Already they had been disowned by her mother’s parents over their faith, and were barely tolerated by her father’s. They were on the verge of being cast out from their home at the grain mill that the elder Kwan’s managed. The Kwan’s could hardly have professing Christians living under their roof. Such an act could cost them the mill, or worse; condemn them to one of the state run reeducation camps. But Lilly was special, with God given supernatural abilities, that confounded those around her. A gift of knowledge and healing were but two of the gifts that made this child special. Slowly, she was winning the hearts and minds of those around her with her love. First her Uncle Bae, then her paternal grandparents, then the many workers who called the mill their home. Yet, as word of her abilities spread, she had become a threat to an establishment which had room for only one god, the nation’s beloved ruler, Kim Il-Sung. She had to be disposed of, yet could even the worst of the reeducation camps, Yodok, conceal her message from the world? This is her story.
