From the Inside Flap
Patrick could see Joanne's mouth moving, but the sudden burst of loud music from the jukebox, coupled with the incessant shouting of people crowded around the bar, made it almost impossible to make out her words. He leaned in, cocking his head to a side and pointing to his ear. "Identification for the boy!" Joanne shouted over the noise, waving Patrick's driver's license and pointing at Jimmy. Patrick froze, looking briefly at Jack as the man shrugged and shook his head. He glanced back at Joanne and his mind raced through a hundred different excuses, none of which seemed in the least bit logical. He could already see from the way she looked at him that this wasn't going to end well, and the best thing he could now was find a way to shrug out of the bar without worrying about her calling the police. Patrick was about to say something when his eye caught movement over Joanne's shoulder. He frowned at the man who had just walked into the bar, barefoot, drenched and visibly shaking. He looked like hell, and even in the dim lighting, Patrick could see the paleness of his face and the panic in his eyes. It was as if he were looking for someone, and when his hand moved into view, Patrick immediately jumped to his feet. "Down!" Patrick yelled, reaching for Jimmy. Tim Gore began shooting.
