absorbed into night: a play

On an unbearably hot, humid August night, five men: three crude Southern old-timers, a real estate investor from Salt Lake City, and a young African-American, gather at Horace Moore’s small, derelict house in the backwoods of Western Kentucky for a casual night of cards and conversation. The conversation begins with Kimball and Horace discussing the sale of his land to an investment firm before being joined by the others. But, as the conversation moves deeper into the night, some of the men begin to share secrets and they discover that the past isn’t dead but they are continually haunted by the remnants of the past. absorbed into night explores those places in our memories that are immune to temporal and geographic distance to show that sometimes, the real traumas and nightmares we experience are not imagined narratives, but those real, first-hand experiences that refuse to remain hidden.
