Campbell Conway, a self-proclaimed science geek and class valedictorian, expected a quiet and boring summer after her senior year of high school. But when the older population in her small West Virginia community fall ill, she finds herself thrust into a battle for survival. An infection quickly spreads through the population and the illness progresses causing the sick to undergo gruesome physical and mental transformations. The infected lose all humanity as they become raging monsters. They are hosts to a parasitic fungus that forces them on a quest to propagate by any means necessary…including attacking their own children. The town is quarantined. No one in, no one out. Amidst growing danger and chaos, Campbell is forced to lead a group of young survivors. She endures a roller coaster of emotions while facing dangerous obstacles and dealing with the complications of her newfound feelings for the benevolent Gavin Falkland. Can Campbell use her love of science to destroy the parasitic fungus before they all become brainsick? Or is it too late?
