One day in January 1974 as bus twelve pulls into Emerson Johnston Elementary, fifth grader Emily Jones notices a “14” in the slot next to her bus.“Why is there no bus thirteen in Colehampton?”, she asks bus driver Kevin. Kevin replies: “I don’t know, but I hear it’s returning next school year."And so starts Emily’s quest to find out: what happened to bus thirteen? Her and her two friends, Lilly and Timmy, research at the town library for clues.Turns out a girl was killed on bus thirteen in a 1949 Nash school bus-25 years earlier-and her name was Emily! They find the dead girls relatives, K and Doris Watson, who were responsible for having the route and bus removed from town. K has kept the 1949 Nash in a barn on his property, the Zagir farmstead.Emily and the dead Emily’s relatives have something in common: they are both contacted by the dead girl’s spirit by a strange breeze, and even stranger dreams, warning of impending doom if the bus returns!Emily knows she must try and stop bus thirteen from returning.
