Anarchist. Black Sheep. Her father’s biggest disappointment. Bishop Scholl has only been expected to do two things in her life during her quarter of a century of being alive on Earth. One: be a devout member of Earth’s only religion that worships a god called the Mother and her isolationist philosophies. Two: be a devoted member of the Obsidian Guard to fight against the Ker threat to enforce said philosophies. Except Bishop vehemently avoids doing either of those things, believing it all to be vicious propaganda. Having detached herself from the way of life of most of her fellow human beings, to say that she’s disturbed the day she gets her draft letter for the Obsidian Guard is putting it lightly. When she’s drafted, much to her naïve surprise, Bishop believes that her only way to stick to her beliefs is to let herself die rather than fight for the cause that the Obsidian Guard believes in. She nearly gets that wish when, on the day she’s meant to swear in, a man with red eyes attacks the base and kills nearly everyone inside, including the Ker whose ship he hijacked to commit the attack. He takes a particular sick delight in torturing Bishop before leaving her for dead. Except she doesn’t die. Now she’s left with the confusion on how she survived and a strange voice inside her head. With the knowledge that it isn’t the rogue Ker that attacked, but that strange man with the red eyes, Bishop makes it her own personal mission to find and assist the Ker in the hopes that in doing so will end the decades long war. But by doing that she exposes herself to the harsh truth that heroics may not simply be as black and white as she’s been led to believe and that she may not be as good of a person as she once thought herself to be.
