Work had nearly dried up for Stanly Blarington, but his cousin said he had a job waiting for him out in the countryside. That’s what got both he and his closest friend, Clara Paredes Soto, on a bus en route to the remote town of Farkland. However, shortly after their arrival, things around them quickly stopped making sense. For one, the infrequently passing cars soon ceased altogether. Because of this, their surroundings grew quieter, unnaturally so. In fact, there no longer seemed to be anyone around. Could the two have missed a signal for an evacuation, some warning to avoid a deadly airborne disease? Or was there a threat loose, something physical, something that was hunting the same dirt roads on which they walked and kept all others inside? Stanly and Clara need to find out, because as far as they can tell, they appear to be the only two left walking the earth. Dark Desperate Things contains forty-three black-and-white rendered illustrations and is recommended for mature readers.
