Sarah credits her abiding interest in the macabre from spending her childhood summers exploring castles and delving into the works of authors such as Anne Rice, Stephen King, and Neil Gaiman. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in History from Oakland University in Rochester Hills, Michigan, and has lived abroad and traveled extensively throughout much of the USA, Europe, and Asia.
