Jerry Donners is driving east on I-90, running from a bitter divorce, running toward his dreams of fame, fortune, and stardom, when his dilapidated old piece-of-crap Pinto breaks down at a rest stop. He's stranded there, where he discovers the murdered body of an upscale call girl. He tries desperately to keep from freezing, but to no avail. Lying up against the freezing cinder block wall inside the rest stop, his spirit leaves his body and comes into communion with hers. The make an intimate connecting. He is saved. Her spirit, "the whispering stowaway," hitches a ride, thereafter directing his every move toward exacting revenge on her murderer, the schizoid "Dutch/Sven" mob boss.
