Frankenstein

Frankenstein was published in 1818 when Mary Shelley was only 21, and is thought to have been inspired by a dream she had as she was competing with Percy Shelley, Lord Byron and John Polidori to write the best horror story. It achieved immediate success with the public, while stirring debate with the critics. This story of an experiment where life is given to an inanimated body through electricity is one of the first examples of science fiction, where Gothic and Romantic elements blend into one of literature's greatest masterpieces of all times that inspired countless adaptations and transpositions.Together with Dracula, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and the works of Edgar Allan Poe, it is one of the all-time classics of young adult thriller and mistery stories.
