Apostate: The Great War

The Great War is the first book in a series that follows Jack, a teenage soldier with PTSD attempting to get back from the battlefields of World War One to his home in remote Michigan in a world where God is present and bestows blessings, but upon the worthy. He is haunted every step of the way by his past and hunted by monsters and demons that haven't been seen in centuries. Together with Bessie Two-Crows, a Cree woman charged by ancient Manitou with rediscovering her people’s lost power, Jack must face a world where God plays favorites and monsters are created by the deeds of everyday people as he makes a desperate bid to rescue his mother from one of the last of the Inquisitors. Tormented by a fickle spirit with the power to undo all of creation, Jack and Bessie must lean on each other to carry a burden that is far more than either can bear, and in the end they may have to pay more than either can imagine.
