The Thing Outside the Window

She doesn’t know what it is or where it came from, but it has been watching her for days. Kristen’s husband doesn’t believe her when she tells him about the horrifying creature she’s seen lurking around their house, and she is almost starting to doubt it herself. It eludes all her attempts to prove its existence, seeming to take delight in gaslighting and tormenting her. And when its sadistic mind games turn deadly, a battle of wills ensues that will determine Kristen’s fate. Can she outthink the creature in time, or will she and her family fall prey to The Thing Outside the Window?A horror novelette, approx. 13,600 words.Note on background from the author: I've always had, maybe not a phobia, but a certain uneasiness about the idea of being watched through windows, particularly late at night, and I guess this story was my way of attempting to exorcise that demon. I also wanted to write a story in which the monster wasn't just some mindless force of evil, but was actually intelligent and even had a personality. The creature never speaks in the story, but I think you'll have a sense of its character by the end. It's a cruel bastard, to put it mildly.
