November 1907. Trapped in grimy Creakie Hall on the edge of the wild and empty Norfolk marshes Zilla Bunting, maid of all work, faces the endless drudgery of her life as best she can but when the sweet smell of strawberries, so wrong for the time of year, captivates her she is drawn towards disaster. The dusty, abandoned rooms of the old house hold answers to a ghostly mystery but is there anyone Zilla can turn to for help to unravel it?
