The horrors of World War I were already enough to shatter the minds of most men. Shelling, poison gas, machine guns raking the trenches at all hours of the day and night. Many men died, and those that survived were never the same. Into this lethal mix was added something that even the hardened veteran was unprepared for, something the most rigorous of training had no way to predict.A battled hardened sergeant leads his ten man squad on a mercy mission to carry five of the most critically wounded back to the regimental field hospital. The ground is too chopped up and muddy for a truck, so the only way is to hand carry them on litters. Before they can finish their mission, they are caught in the open by an artillery barrage and the few survivors are forced to seek shelter wherever they can. Little do they know what starts out as their salvation soon turns into far worse than the hell of war they left behind.
