THE STORYThe Reluctant Time Traveller is relevant to today’s difficulties in business and the banking sector’s greed, but the reader will find much more in the 325 pages (111,009 words). In the beginning, we see James Alexander’s business is failing, as is his marriage. Self-pity leads him to consider suicide as desperation, uncertainty, and disappointment appear to be his future. On his early morning walk, he slips and falls, losing consciousness. When he recovers, he cannot find his way home and fears he has lost his memory. He eventually finds a Manor house and within weeks, his life changes dramatically partly due to an adulterous liaison. This leads him into a world of high finance, intrigue, betrayal, politics, royalty, temptation, greed, murder, and state secrets. There is a twist to the tale, and in later chapters, it includes four events in history where the author suggests what was written may be untrue or deliberately hidden. The real people in this novel include Winston Churchill, Lloyd George, Colonel the Maharajah Bhupinder Singh of Patiala, King George V, Friedrich Wilhelm II of Germany, Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, the Tsarevitch and his elder sister Anastasia, Jacob Schiff, USA financier and banker, Field Marshall Herbert Kitchener, Secretary of State for War, who allegedly was killed by a German spy, and President Woodrow Wilson of the USA. In addition, Generals French, Haig, and Roberts, the latter was the only General in history to become a General and Chief of Defence Staff who joined the army as a private. The story opens in 2010, but there are some surprises for the reader, nothing is quite as it seems.
