Citala has known Namid since childhood, so being his girlfriend was the logical choice, even though she was a wolf-kin, and he was a witch. Her entire world is spun out of control, however, when another of her childhood friends, Andras, comes back into her life. No one except Citala, really trusts the mysterious vampire, least of all her father, the seraph Uriel. Uriel has come back with his brother Michael, from Arania, to train his daughter Citala, stepson Niyol and their friends Namid and Andras. The four friends are being prepared for ascension, and ultimately for battle with Uriel and Michael's proud brother, Gabriel. Why can Citala, despite being married to Namid, think only of the shadow-wielding Andras, why does she have strange gaps in her memory, and why does the Wolf King himself, who once plauged her grandmother, have a special interest in her? War is brewing, as Citala and her four friends are plunged into a world of love, hate, death, and betrayal.
