Past Lives, Present Dangers: Legacy of the Cathars

Past lives, same souls; some know, some don't: What happens when old souls meet again? Mid-1970s: Detective Sergeant Susan Hannah is the first female police detective in this small city near the Oregon coast. Some call it “women’s liberation,” but others think women should know their “place.” After a young woman staggers into the clinic near the college campus and dies without a word, the new detective discovers a series of rapes and a police cover-up that has gone on for years. The college is run by a monastery whose mysterious sect started over a thousand years ago in southern France and survived a massive religious purge in the Middle Ages. Most of the college professors are holy brothers—but how can she rule them out as suspects when the victims were all attacked on their cathedral grounds? To DS Hannah, something else feels too familiar here—not just people, but the sense of helplessness and persecution. She can’t help thinking that this has happened before . . . maybe not in this life, but in one before.
