“Have you ever woke with murder on your mind and rage in your heart? Not someone else’s murder, your own. No. Well maybe it’s just a phoenix thing, because for six months that’s all my life has been. My name is Zora and I’m on the run from the grim council. I may or may not have burned their leader alive. But that doesn’t give them the right to make my life a living hell by sending ghouls and other nasty creatures after me every chance they can get. I don’t even know if I killed him, if I didn’t, he’s being a real jerk about this. If I did, who the hell keeps sending the undead after us.By us I mean my best friend, Jess. She’s a banshee, and my friend Ethan. We aren’t quite sure what he is anymore, but he used to be a grim, which makes running from the grim council really awkward for us. Especially since I think I might be falling for him. I know. Imagine falling for a guy who’s entire racing is hunting you and trying to kill you. Believe it or not that’s not the craziest thing that’s happened to me, just one of the many new twist and turns since I became a phoenix. But, hey if I can call a harbinger of death my best friend and flirt with death himself then I can survive anything. Right?”
