Team Spirit

Willie Timmons could have been the most talented basketball player that small-town Herrington High had ever seen. But forces beyond his control prevented him from living his dream. Half a century later, Kevin Graves is the new kid in that same small town, and he is having a tough time finding just where he fits in as a member of the high school’s varsity basketball team. To make matters worse, he begins seeing things on the court that no one else seems to notice. Coach MacDonald tries his best to foster some team spirit among his players. Little do they know that they are about to get a healthy dose of team spirit - but not exactly the kind Coach has in mind. At times light-hearted, at times tense, Team Spirit is a thought-provoking look at the interactions of the residents of a small town, and what it’s like to be an outsider in that town. It is a story about life, and how unfortunate accidents and their repercussions can be resolved – eventually. It sometimes takes just a long, long time. Written primarily for teens, TEAM SPIRIT is a novel with layers of meaning; the story appeals to adults as well as teens.

J. Baur Tansey lives in the northeastern Sierra in a family built home surrounded by forest and meadow. A life-long writer and recently retired teacher, J. finds inspiration in family, community, and nature.
