Sixteen-year-old Melantha is finally learning to turn spells. Then a strange sickness starts putting spell-turners to sleep, including her Gran and new friend, Savion. Within no time at all, she's one of only two teenaged spell-turners left to figure out what's going on. Melantha wants to trust the new spell-turner in town, Phoenix. But there's something he isn't telling her. Then she learns she's being hunted by a pack of blood-thirsty dwarves, and a demon possesses one of her classmates. Mel is left with no choice but to work with Phoenix. They'll have to work quickly to stay ahead of the sleeping sickness. If they don't succeed, the demon will destroy them all. If the dwarves don't get to her first.
