Jon Elan, a young newspaper reporter, experiences debilitating dreams that begin to negatively impact his heart. Those dreams and unfamiliar memories escalate when he is sent to cover a story about an unusual rash of both white and black church burnings in his home town of Telby, North Carolina; a place he vehemently hates. Jon, a bit of a bigot himself, has no interest in covering the story. While in Telby, Jon encounters a beautiful African-American woman, Brenda Evans whom he finds himself drawn toward. Brenda senses that she somehow knows Jon but he insists that they have never met. There is definitely chemistry between them that neither can explain or wishes to acknowledge.Brenda believes that the murder of her brother, Tony, is somehow related to the burnings that Jon is investigating. He agrees to help Brenda solve her brother’s death and soon becomes the target of two separatist groups; one black and one white. Both groups have something to hide and will do anything to protect their respective secrets.The more Jon and Brenda get to know each other the more evident their similarities become.
