Historical context includedBased on the notoriously cruel king of Transylvania, Vlad III, or Vlad the Impaler, as many critics believe, Dracula contains journal entries, letters, and telegrams written by the main characters. Jonathan Harker wants to finish a real estate deal with Count Dracula, who is a client of his firm. Dracula looks pale, thin, and strange when they meet for the first time. In England, Mina is visiting Lucy Westenra, a friend who just got engaged after turning down several suitors. Lucy gets sick, and a bat watches her through a window, and she is given to Dr. Seward and Van Helsing to look after her.Van Helsing, Seward, and the rest of the vampire hunters kill Count Dracula's concubine Lucy to stop her from killing again. After taking care of Lucy, they go after Count Dracula and the fifty boxes of dirt he brought with him. The group tries to break the boxes so that Dracula can't come back to life. They find him buried in the last box of dirt and cut off his head and pierce his heart quickly. Let's not forget the Texan cowboy character, Quincey P. Morris, who dealt with Dracula AKA the blood-sucking demon once and for all when the "civilized Brits" or elites didn't have the mental fortification to do it.According to some critics, Bram Stoker's novel depicts the threat to civilization posed by a primitive nature that pervades the modern world as Count Dracula. You can both learn from and be thrilled by this classic gothic horror vampire tale written during Victoria Era England society of 1897.
