Highly-regarded collection of short stories first published by Ex Occidente Press [2010]. Includes the 50 page novella 'The Melancholy Haunting Of Nicholas Parkes' which fictionalises the life, music and death of the tragic singer-songwriter Nick Parkes. This story was short-listed for a British Fantasy Society 'Best Short Story' award and is currently being expanded into a 1,500 page three-volume novel. It is also the story which is believed to have led to the Estate Of Nick Drake arguing that Nick Drake's legacy should not be viewed as 'melancholy'. Four of the stories were also given 'Honorable Mentions' by Ellen Datlow in her annual review of that year's best contemporary horror fiction. 'Tenebrous Tales' received the strange accolade of receiving the longest review ever given to a work of fiction by the British Fantasy Society. Contemporary reviews compared the prose style to Walter de la Mare, Robert Aickman and Lewis Carroll. As the proprietor of Elegant Horrors, Christopher Richard Barker is something of an expert on Gothic literature and works of supernatural horror. Under his Haunted River imprint, he edited and published the first two short story collections by the award-winning Reggie Oliver. He has worked with many notable people including Dr Glen Cavliero and Joan Aiken. In 2016, Barker's poem 'In Every Parting, The Shadow Of Death' featured on the Klanggalerie CD 'From Vienna With Love' accompanied by a dark-ambient soundtrack by the industrialist band Attrition. This new paperback version of 'Tenebrous Tales' includes two extra tales not available in the long sold-out hardback edition. Contents: 'The Melancholy Haunting Of Nicholas Parkes' 'Subtle Differences' 'The Motiveless Pursuit' 'Snow Train' 'The Sinister Cupboard' 'The Man Who Fell Awake' 'The Tableaux' 'The Cliff Path' 'Drill Head' 'The She Queen Of Sif' 'The Mine Field' 'The Thing In The Tree'
