Frieda Hughes, daughter of the poet Ted Hughes, has written three wonderfully scary stories. They are bleak, stark and guaranteed to send a chill down the spine of any 8 12 year old. A true Halloween title and a great gift for boys.Three bizarre stories, each with a twist in the tail, are reminiscent of Roald Dahls and Paul Jennings short stories. From the weird Clockwork Dog with strangely human features, to the Granny posessed by a wicked spirit, to the Little Brother who concocts a special chemical to make things grow each makes the hairs on your head tingle. What two boys said about the enjoyed reading the story, Little Brother. In some places it was extremely funny, and in others it sort of scared the reader and made their feet feel tense and alert. A very good read. Santosh Joshi, aged 9The story, The Clockwork Dog, is interesting with a clear plot, great characters and once you start rading it, it captures you and you just have to know what happens the that dog, Blackie. Funny and scary. Tom Allan, aged 9
