Until the day he chooses the wrong victim, Paul Carrington thinks he is untouchable and beyond the reach of the Law. Sir Harold Lawson, one of the most powerful men in the UK at the helm of a vast business empire, maintains a very private life style. Devoted to the memory of his dead wife, he never considered remarrying, instead he is devoted to his only child Charlotte. Charlotte, his young beautiful daughter, is as honest in her approach to life as her father. Despite her privileged upbringing she treats as equals all those with whom she came in contact. This trait she inherits from her dead mother, along with a leaning of a decidedly mystical nature, according to some. DCI McRae is one of the most respected police officers in Scotland yard, indeed throughout the metropolitan force. Now however approaching the end of his career he is given some of the seemingly more straightforward cases, in order to help ease him into retirement. Edward Roberts, Eddie to his friends, is a regular guy running a back-street car repair business. Hard working, fun loving and easy-going, Eddie enjoys his work and his life style. His future looks bright with no obvious problems on the horizon. That is until the day, his life is forever changed. He becomes an unwilling tool for revenge, which places him between the law, the underworld, the powerful financial empire of Sir Harold Lawson and his own passive beliefs. These people are about to become entwined in the unfolding investigation. All would be changed in ways that were beyond their belief and real-world understanding, especially Edward. An armoured car belonging to a company owned by Sir Harold is hijacked while carrying a substantial amount of money. As DCI McRae is sent to interview Sir Harold it is soon apparent that this was no ordinary robbery.
