Freaksome Tales

These ten stories of the macabre by V. V. Swigferd Gloume, the "Bard from Beyond" (1889-1913), were written pseudonymously and are his first published works. We are proud to present these tales of a master of Edwardian horror for the very first time to his readership. They run the gamut of style and content, from somber and disquieting pieces to the gore and grotesquerie which made him famous. Controversy persists about whether or not, in fact, Gloume wrote any of his own material, or whether it was all ghostwritten; the more outlandish conspiracy theories suggest that Gloume never existed at all and is merely a nom de plume. The publication of this collection, with its wealth of photos and other historical data, should lay such theories to rest once and for all. Edited and with a foreword by William Rosencrans.

About the Author

Vachel Vieuxpont Swigferd Gloume was born in London in 1889. His interest in the occult led to a remarkably prolific writing career: between  1912 and 1913, the year of his death, he produced over four hundred short stories and twelve novels. He remains the most uneasily regarded author of macabre fiction of the Edwardian era.
