Richard Scott is a once promising writer who has recently quit drinking and has moved his family of four out of New York City and into the suburbs, in hopes to get his career back on track. When he and his wife Angela decide on a large home in the suburbs of Connecticut, things appear to be heading in the right direction for the Scott family. However, while having dinner with their neighbors, the Gordons, they soon discover that the house has a past and that all is not what it seems there. Their dog refuses to go into the house and the Scott children, Justin and Katrina, begin seeing things happen that defy logic, while Angela watches her husband revert to the monster he was before he stopped drinking. When in town one afternoon, Angela decides to buy a Ouija board, hoping it will help her communicate with the entity in the home. She intended to keep it a secret. But Richard seems to know that she and the kids are playing on it. He seems to know exactly what Katrina and her friends are asking the board and he bides his time. Waiting for the right moment to strike.
