The Girl Next Door: A Ghost Story

After years of living in her uncle’s strict household in the suburbs, 15-year-old Sophia and her immigrant family move into an old house in an aging neighborhood in Houston. Sophia is eager to embrace her newfound freedom by making new school friends, updating her fashion, and hanging out for the first time in her life.When her neighbor tells her about the abandoned house next door, where a teenager had died, and a friend encourages her to check out the house, Sophia embarks on a new adventure of trespassing the empty house next door at nights. There she meets another teen named Anna and her friend Michael, who take her to parties and on long drives around the city in the middle of the night. Then Sophia finds a diary buried in her yard, apparently belonging to another high school girl. Sophia begins to have vivid dreams about the girl in the diary and has trouble telling apart her own midnight adventures from what she reads in the diary.As Sophia’s social life takes off and her escapades become increasingly dangerous, her parents get angry at her for her wild behavior. Meanwhile, her fantastic midnight adventures with Anna are contrasted with horrible tragedies in the neighborhood. After an encounter with a furious Anna that nearly kills her, Sophia realizes that Anna is a ghost, or a dream she’s having, of the murdered girl from the house next door. Anna’s restless spirit will go on killing until Sophia figures out who murdered her.
