Brittney Michaels celebrated her fifth birthday at the town’s annual carnival, where she met her new friend Emily while riding the merry-go-round. Brittney’s father snapped pictures of his daughter and her friend enjoying the ride, but it wasn’t until later, when he looked at the photos, that he realized this was no ordinary friend. Emily did not show up on any of the pictures. The tragic story of Emily begins to emerge when the family meets Jon Markos and his brother Dan, both gifted with the ability to see what most can’t. Together they work to solve the puzzle, and to find answers to two very important questions: who is this mysterious child, and what does she want?
