RESURGENCE: or, The Vertical March

In an otherwise peaceful California town, Ana Bane runs from a monstrous predator that seems always at her heels. She only barely escapes, and the creature calls out after her "We will find you. Though an old injury keeps him from going there himself, he is responsible for overseeing and funding the expedition. But something in what has been found disturbs him, and he decides to head north to seek consultation with his benefactors. A near perfectly preserved body of an ancient predator known as the Dinofelis, once believed to hunt mankind but thought by many to be a myth.As young women in Ana Banes circle are turning up dead, apparent victims of some kind of animal attack possibly masking a murderer, the girl fears her long endured nightmare is no longer content to stay just in her dreams."There is a counter history of the Dinofelis to that of man. History that travals in parallel to our own, that measures our horizontal march with its own vertical. Such history would dwell on the strange beasts that haunt our dreams. It would account not only for our capacity for destruction, but our own attraction to it. What was found in the caves of Kromdaii just may tell some of that story. What if the Dinofelis was never extinct at all, but evolved."
