The Knight Proper

Much like his knight-lord father, Edwin cares little for pretty words of poetry and song. Duty, loyalty, discipline: these are the only words that truly matter to him as a knight in service of the Brotherhood . . . that is, until he meets Evelina.Beautiful beyond measure, she’s also a Gravewalker, a witch able to make use of the emotional residues left behind in cemeteries and burial grounds to power her magics. Displeased with this alliance, Edwin’s father declares all-out war against her kind, resulting in Evelina’s death, Edwin’s imprisonment, and the disappearance of Mela, their precocious young daughter.Years later, Mela, now the most powerful Gravewalker in her clan, marshals her sisters to abandon their peaceful ways as caretakers of the dead and instead raise an army of undead warriors against the knight-lord and his men, threatening utter ruin for all.Freed by an irascible bard with her own dubious intentions, Edwin is now the only one who can put a stop to his daughter’s quest for vengeance. To save everything he knows, he must become more than just a knight . . . He must become the Knight Proper.

Best Fantasy Books HQ

"A new Dark Fantasy novel from an incredibly talented writing duo" and Best Fantasy Book for August 2016

Keith C. Blackmore, author of the Mountain Man series

"The Knight Proper is, at its undead heart, an entertaining and oddly touching story about two people trying to reconnect, with one delightfully wicked sequence of events that, frankly, I wish I'd thought of. Readers of dark fantasy would do well to check out Matt and Adam's efforts."

Janna Grace, author of The Talkers are Talking

"Greven and Deller have crafted a wonderful world of witches, knights and the undead for their tragic hero and twisted anti-heroine to traverse. Witty dialogue and well-developed characters build an atmosphere reminiscent of the mystical and shadowy lands of LeGuin's Earthsea Trilogy."

About the Author

Although The Knight Proper is Adam Greven's first published work, he already has an Urban Fantasy novel by the name of Grey Bargains under his belt, as well as a Sci-Fi Crime Noir, Death of the Afterglow, in the works. Outside of writing, Adam runs the Kids Department for Barnes and Noble, a strange job for the budding Dark Fantasy writer we all know and love. He's also an Amateur Photographer and an Auto Racing enthusiast and no, he's not just there for the pile-ups.Matt Deller is a screenwriter, Dungeons and Dragons nerd, video-game designer and drummer for an 80's cover band. In a previous life, he was an Assistant Principal and Chaos Wrangler for a High School of 4,000 kids, where his experience as the captain of a Division I collegiate wrestling team occasionally came in handy. His first professional writing endeavor was for video game developer Obsidian Entertainment (Neverwinter Nights 2), with his first feature film, Manhattan Undying, set for release in 2016 from Paramount Pictures, starring Luke Grimes and Sarah Roemer.
