The ballad of Alice Brand tells the tale of two lovers, Alice and Richard, forced to flee when Richard kills Alice's brother. They go to live in a fairy wood and run afoul of the Elf King there who sends a very unexpected opponent against them. This retelling follows the basic bones of the original story but with a trans main character and a very different ending. As part of the wider 'Queering Fairy' series this short story seeks to offer a different perspective on the older fairy ballads while keeping the original fairylore intact. An LGBTQ love story, adapting older fairylore.CW: violence, homophobia
