The patang wallah of Sainachatti, from whom I bought kites as a child, has passed into Himalayan lore. The local poets and minstrels commemorate his love for his wife, who died soon after their marriage. Since his death a few years back a kite flying competition, and duels with kites take place at Sainachatti in his honour, with cups and cash prizes for the winners.
