Anne Laurence and her young daughter Jessica arrive in the small town of Pemberton, the childhood home of Anne's late husband Micheal, an Army Air Corps pilot killed in the Pacific. Michael's post-war plan was to move his young family into the farmhouse his grandfather bequeathed to him. Now it is up to Anne to carry out Michael's dream. But soon after settling into their new home, little Jessica disappears into the mysterious woods surrounding the town. Search parties are formed but the trail quickly grows cold. Anne soon realizes that the only hope of ever seeing Jessica again will not only depend upon help from her sister Kelly and the people of Pemberton, but also from a ghost - the spirit of that other little girl.
