Hanna, a panic-prone shoe salesman, meets Gary, an accident-prone architect, while vacationing in an isolated Irish fishing village on the edge of a bog. On the edge of not only a bog, but menopause as well, Hanna experiences a hornet's nest of perimenopausal symptoms that run circles around the prototypical hot flash. Residual bitterness from his former wife's infidelity has Gary trapped in a state of mental disorientation when confronted with the stubborn insistence of deep-rooted yearnings. He also suffers from a series of calamities that he blames on the loss of a protective Irish-hound armband given to him by his dear grandmother when he was a boy. Synchronous occurrences, wisdom-imparting village locals, the gratifying albeit mortifying first-time enactment of a sexual fantasy, and the age-old symbolism of horses, hounds, and patron saints make Hanna and Gary's perimenopausal affair one hilarious and sexy romp.
