Although Burroughs wrote in many genres he is best known for creating the jungle hero Tarzan. Burroughs began writing for pulp fiction magazines and in 1912 he published Tarzan of the Apes. In A Princess of Mars John Carter ventures to the kingdom of Helium on the planet Mars This first novel about Mars by Burroughs features titanic green monsters and gorgeous red princesses battling across a barren landscape.
