Nineteen-year-old Marissa Copeland has something wrong with her brain. At least, that's what the doctors say. After battling severe depression and attempting suicide, her parents sent her to the middle of nowhere...to some halfway house in the sparse landscape of western Texas called Shady Acres. Her parents say some time in the country will do her some good, but Marissa's not so sure. Shady Acres is a large cottage that houses around ten patients, and they're an interesting cast of characters. Vern and Gertie McConnell, the elderly couple that owns the place, are too nice and endearing for Marissa to take seriously. Her only solace is her friend and roommate Kathleen, who keeps her from picking fights with Jimmy, the most annoying person on the face of the planet. Disaster strikes when one of the patients that Marissa is close with kills herself. In the wake of her death, monsters start to plague Marissa's dreams. Vern and Gertie try to brush it off as stress or another mental illness, but these monsters are out to hurt Marissa, and she knows that she's not just seeing things. As time starts to run out, Marissa must find out where these creatures are coming from, and how to stop them before she meets an untimely demise.
