It's 1977 and Vance is mowing his lawn when a tiny child happens upon his home with a box of chalk in her hand. After playing a game of hopscotch with him, the girl later comes to visit Vance regularly, and the two become very close. Vance learns many unique aspects of the girl, but it isn't until after a few visits that he finds out frightening information about the girl's background. In trying to resolve the issue, Vance takes the girl to see Margot, both a therapist and friend of a friend, where it turns out that there are many more connections than anyone is aware.
