Many voices rise up to be heard, a chorus of triumph and failure is being sung. In a small, hidden village a friendship is born between a small gnome and an old dwarf. Their friendship is unlikely and worrying considering the old dwarf was murdered years ago. Now only a ghost trapped in a clockwork game piece remains to seek vengeance on its killer. After finding and repairing the toy a child’s pact is made between young and old, living and dead. The boy named Sadz and the clockwork now called Tock vow to unravel the mystery and bring retribution to the killer. Their story is a small part of the history of an unseen and unheralded struggle between the Khazâd and the Uruk-hai. The struggle between Iron and Bone is unknown to the scribes of men and unsung by the choirs of elves. An unending war is being fought high in snow clad mountains beyond the reach of men and low in dark, hidden caves beneath the notice of elves. The Khazâd fallen demand their sacrifices be remembered. Their army marches to the sound of war horns and the drum beat of cannon fire. The Uruk-hai only demand that their enemy submits or dies. Either decision leads to their bellies. In the distant Undying Gloom a leader is born and he demands that the world tremble hearing his name… Kothak Dhûrz! He commands, “Shumab pukhl–ob nar-throkum nar-nadi” (“Stories are told by the full not by the eaten.”)
