In 1700, a great wave sinks entire islands in the Puget Sound, leaving a three-year-old indigenous girl the sole survivor. About the Author

Dyan Dubois trained as a visual artist. She paints with words. Her loveof travel and respect for world cultures shows in the literary geography she creates for her characters. Combining fantasy with factual history, malleable time, and ancient mythological whispers, Dyan creates afictional tapestry of mysterious plots.As a Fulbright scholar,she lived in Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. She has traveled to Indiaoften, her husband's birthplace. When she retired as a college visualarts professor, she began her life as an author, having written foryears in the closet. She lives in the Sierra Mountains ofCalifornia with coyotes--and bears who occasionally break in looking for porridge--where she communes with nature, writes, paints, and makesstained glass panels.
