Hidden in the night, protected from the world. It waited in darkness. Cold wind blew from the north, filling the air with fear. It carried with it a mist that swept through the cracks, slipping past the thick curtains drawn to conceal the secrets inside. Midnight breeze slowly moved the drapes. They drifted back into place for a moment and moved again, higher. Taking in a breath she closed the window. Chills ran down her spine. A light mist filled the room and covered her feet. Despite an impulse to scream, she remained silent. She turned, uncertain of what she might see. The moonlight shined enough through the window to see a figure of a man standing in the corner. He made no attempt to speak. His deep gaze fixed on her. Unsettling, but at the same time it warmed her body.
