A Christmas Carol has long been a favourite book as I've no doubt it is one of yours. When, some years ago, I discovered this extraordinary abridgement by Charles Dickens, which he made for his public performances, I decided to make a faithful transcription of it. All stands exactly as written, as abridged by Charles Dickens himself. It also occurred to me that actors, as well as readers, would be interested in a shorter version of this famous tale, a performance version, especially one personally condensed by Charles Dickens, and suitable for acting or reading on a cold winter’s night to friends and family.
