Victorian Ghost Stories

First published in 1933, “Victorian Ghost Stories” is a collection of supernatural tales involving ghosts, werewolves, vampires, and other preternatural subjects, collected by Montague Summers. Contents include: “Hugues, the Wer-wolf: A Kentish Legend of the Middle Ages, by Sutherland Menzies (1883)”, “The Dream, by Joseph Sheridan le Fanu (1838)”, “A Chapter in the History of a Tyrone Family, by Joseph Sheridan le Fanu (1871)”, “The Italian's Story, by Catherine Crowe (1859)”, “Round the Fire, by Catherine Crowe (1859)”, “The Mysterious Stranger, from the German (1860)”, etc. Augustus Montague Summers (1880 – 1948) was an English clergyman and author most famous for his studies on vampires, witches and werewolves—all of which he believed to be very much real. He also wrote the first English translation of the infamous 15th-century witch hunter's manual, the “Malleus Maleficarum”, in 1928. Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive.
